We've had a shop on Steyning High Street since [year], so we've had plenty of time to work out the best ways to spend a day here. Whether you're visiting for the first time or live down the road, here's our pick.
Walk up to Chanctonbury Ring
The ring of beech trees on the ridge above Steyning is visible for miles and the views are worth the climb. It sits on the South Downs Way, so you can make it a short stroll or a full day out. Take sturdy shoes; it gets muddy after rain, which in Sussex means most of the year.
Explore the Steyning Bowl
The dry valley just outside town is one of the easiest ways onto the Downs from the high street. It's a favourite with dog walkers and anyone who wants the countryside without committing to a ten mile hike.
Cycle or walk the Downs Link
The old railway line runs past Steyning and Bramber and is flat, traffic free and good for families. Head south towards the coast or north into the Weald.
Visit Bramber Castle
A short walk away in Bramber, the ruins of this Norman castle are free to visit and make a good stop on a longer walk. There's not a huge amount of castle left, but the setting makes up for it.
See St Andrew and St Cuthman's Church
Steyning's parish church has one of the finest Norman interiors in Sussex, with carved arches that have been standing for around 900 years. Worth ten minutes even if churches aren't usually your thing.
Pop into Steyning Museum
Small, free and run by volunteers, the museum covers the town's history, including its time as a Saxon port.

Steyning's farmers' market brings local producers into town each month.
